ScanEx Image Processor v5.0: New Opportunities and Acceleration of Work

SCANEX Group is presenting a new version of ScanEx Image Processor, a software package intended for photogrammetric and thematic processing of satellite imagery.

ScanEx Image Processor v5.0 is sufficiently different from earlier versions. The algorithms and interfaces of some tools have been changed, and several industry-first features have been added.

The developers of the 5th SIP version have introduced the functionality to handle most recent imagery data (from Sentinel-½, KazEOSat-½, Deimos-2, TripleSat, ZY-3, GF-2, KOMPSAT-3A and other satellites) and modern standard formats of forwarding information, including data from Russian ERS systems («Resurs-P», «Kanopus-V» and «Aist-2D»).

The new version offers extended capabilities to facilitate batch upload of digital elevation models (DEM). SIP v5.0 can load, merge them, interpolate empty spaces and transform to WGS84 elevation systems of public matrices (SRTM SIR-C 1 and AW3D-30).

Thematic Classification Module has been completely modified to optimize algorithms and accelerate work. The menu interface has been amended in order to simplify standard operations. In particular, the developers have introduced interactive tools of thematic calibration that can sufficiently simplify creation of thematic maps and make this process more transparent. Batch Training Mode has been added, which accelerates thematic classification process via graphic accelerators. Also the new version will offer to its users a new method of creating topography maps («Neural Gas»).

Thematic Classification Module is an updated and enhanced tool of NeRIS Group, however ScanEx Image Processor v5.0 comprises both components. This is done for a user’s convenience in order to facilitate smooth transition to new tools.

This new SIP version gives much prominence to rational polynomial coefficients (RPC). In particular, it can now apply them when uploading rasters into the system and offers some new tools for RPC computation, calculation of elevations via RPC and other options.

The developers of ScanEx Image Processor v5.0 have updated and extended the Transformation Block. In particular, they have fine-tuned bundle adjustment and co-registration tools, added some new tools for orthotransformation involving resampling option, per-pixel assessment of transformation accuracy and export of raster coordinates into external text formats. Finally they have extended the range of functions to handle ground control point (GCP).

The module to create DEM has also been amended. The experts have added new functions of interactive quality control of epipolar imagery, and the DEM editor has been upgraded. Also they have completely revised the mode of creating DEM via elevation points — now this function is represented by a separate dialog module, which can apply three interpolation algorithms and Delaunay triangulation.

Important supplements also include new universal tools to define reflectance and execute atmospheric correction, both parametric (based on 6S Library) and non-parametric (based on DOS methods), as well as topographic correction via Minnaert Correction, Cosine Correction and other methods.
