Municipal level
The use of remote sensing data and products based on geographic information systems, portals, etc., by the municipal public authorities can improve the efficiency of solving a number of challenges they face. Satellite data can be used for the following purposes:
- Urban planning and land use (planning of new areas, construction control, updating inventory data, and more)
- Improvement of urban and surrounding areas
- Management of municipal property
- In the transport sector (road construction, transport infrastructure assessment, etc.)
- Monitoring municipal solid waste landfills (dynamics and regulatory compliance)
- To control illegal activities (unauthorized construction, violation of borders, misuse of territories, identification of illicit manufacturing, etc.)
- By environmental agencies and organizations (monitoring forestry and water management objects, monitoring violations of natural resources regulations, and so on)
- Monitoring emergency situations (natural disasters, man-made disasters, etc.)
- Creating GIS for local governments
- Creating municipal or regional public portals and accumulating socially significant information (interactive maps with georeferenced objects, crowdsourcing platforms, popular maps, and so on)
