Uray is located on the bank of the River Konda, 250 km from Khanty-Mansiysk. This city is called the firstborn of West Siberian oil. It was here in 1960 that the first oil field in Western Siberia was discovered.

Today, Uray is a monotown, equated to the regions of the Far North. The main oil and gas producing enterprise is “Urayneftegaz”. The town starts the oil pipeline Shaim — Tyumen.

A locomotive of the L series is installed as a monument in Uray. Wherein the nearest railway station is located 120 kilometers from the town.

The Coat of Arms of Uray depicts a seagull, which is mentioned among the indigenous population as the Spirit-patron, protector of the inhabitants of Konda.
