The New GeoMixer Web-Mapping Service
The interface of the specialized geoservice “Kosmosnimki – the Seas of Russia”, which provides access to space data of operational oil spill and ship traffic monitoring. ScanEx RDC is releasing the new web-mapping application GeoMixer and the API to provide access to the data of Kosmosnimki.Ru geoportal.
The API is a program interface designed for developers of web-mapping services that enables embedding a map containing base geodata from the Kosmosnimki.Ru geoportal into various web pages. The “GeoMixer” web application is an additional tool for geodata preparation and publication in order to provide multi-user access to those data via the Internet or a local network.
The advantage of using the API in combination with the ”GeoMixer” web-application is that this technology provides opportunity to mix sets of geodata from various sources (for instance from the Kosmosnimki.ru service and those from a user local server with the “GeoMixer” application installed).
The API is a free service, provided it is used on open and non-commercial sites with limited daily number of queries sent to the service.
As for the GeoMixer web-application — the free Lite-version was released for the purposes of testing and usage, which implies no functional limitations and is limited only in terms of a number and amount of vector layers in the database. The GeoMixer Pro (unlimited version) — is commercial.
The release of the API service and provision of free access to GeoMixer software will bring democratization of geodata usage to a higher level. This service in particular is designed to provide easy and economic access to satellite images from ScanEx RDC archives with data search and order capability. The new technology is efficient in joint effort for solving a particular task, when specialists of different disciplines can manage issues of their responsibility using one and the same web-application.
Details on development of Russian geoportal technologies and in particular on Scanex Web GeoMixer API will be available at the 4th International Conference “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions”. The conference can be attended by anyone interested. The registration is ongoing.
