ScanEx and MIIGAiK opened Innovational Scientific and Educational Center “Geomonitoring”

International conference “Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre- XXI century” at MIIGAiK
On May 26, the Innovational Scientific and Educational Center “Geomonitoring” was opened. The Center was created at the Department of Applied Cosmonautics and Photogrammetry of the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography (MIIGAiK), supported by ScanEx R&D Center.
The primary tasks of this “Geomonitoring” Center are improvements in students’ preparations, advance training of specialists in sphere of Earth remote sensing data processing, study of natural resources using aerospace methods, photogrammetry and geoinformatics, as well as improved integration of industrial, technological, scientific and educational processes.
Based on “Geomonitoring” Center there are plans to:
— Our graduates have fundamental theoretical background backed up by a wide range of professional skills. Many of them have been successfully working both at Russian R&D organizations, and in leading foreign cartographic and geodesic companies, - said University Dean Vasily Malinnikov. – Practical experience and its application become very crucial in the conditions of rapidly developing geoinformation technologies, digital photogrammetry and cartography methods and 3D modeling of objects and territories. It is obvious that the requirement to improve education in cartography and geodesy is very critical today. One of the options for development in this direction is the creation of profile innovation centers at universities, gaining knowledge that later on will help to initiate self-training, if required.
Up-to-date software dedicated to remote sensing data processing and data preparation for GIS and terrain modeling will be used in the Geomonitoring center. First of all, it is ScanEx Image Processor® software application, developed by ScanEx RDC.
ScanEx Image Processor® — is the state-of-the-art tool for preliminary and thematic processing of satellite data and creation of end products (terrain models and maps – thematic, physical indices, etc.), as well as for data export into GIS and image processing systems.
During the opening ceremony MIIGAiK President and Hero of the Soviet Union cosmonaut, professor and RAS corresponding member Victor Savinykh noted that MIIGAiK has always welcomed joint activities of scientific companies and profile organizations with the university: such a cooperation enables to combine the received at the university fundamental background with the practical preparation of graduates in the scientific and industrial organizations.
— The Geomonitoring Center will be improving preparation and advanced training of specialists, optimizing activities for the study of objects and territories when developing geoinformation products and carrying out GIS-projects. This will ensure production and education, profile and specialized software integration, as well as integration of different RS data, methods and technologies of this data processing and finding the most effective solutions, - added Geomonitoring Center Head Alexander Grechischev.
— MIIGAiK and ScanEx RDC have been fruitfully cooperating for much more than a year in sphere of introduction of space technologies into the scientific and educational process, - summed up ScanEx General Director Vladimir Gershenzon. – The Geomonitoring Center is to strengthen the leading position of the university in preparation of specialists in sphere of geodesy, photogrammetry, cartography, aerospace imagery and geoinformation systems.
Geomonitoring Center was opened within the frames of the International Conference “Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre – XXI Century”. Conference attendees had an opportunity to get better knowledge of the possibilities and plans of the Geomonitoring Center at the exhibition booth of ScanEx RDC. Besides, ScanEx specialists, delivering the scientific and practical reports, shared the innovations in sphere of geoportal technology with the audience, telling them about the specifics of we-maps design and rendering.

- Render services in decision-making for natural resources studies, emergencies mitigation and impact assessment, logistics, agricultural and municipal economy management, environmental and other types of monitoring.
