Webinar on ForestReport, Unique Online Service For the Forest Industry, Released on SCANEX Youtube Channel

04 December 2020

We welcome all forest industry representatives specialized in logging from large companies, as well as farm holdings to one of the most useful, especially at the end of the year, free webinars! One may learn how to quickly, easily and efficiently create Annexes to the Report on Forest Use, Reforestation and Afforestation that should incorporate ERS data.

Autumn is the annual forest declaration period. In 2018, orders № 451 and № 452 issued by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment entered into force obliging industry representatives to include ERS materials along with blueprints of forest sites.

A large number of companies struggled with where to obtain the right imagery data, how to prove the image authenticity and date accuracy, as well as how to incorporate the required data into the Annexes along with blueprints of forest sites. Moreover, what guarantee did they have that the Annexes will be prepared in accordance with the regulations and accepted by the responsible body? Dozens of other questions remained unanswered as well. The same year SCANEX presented a unique GIS service for the forest industry named Scanex ForestReport that generated the required Annexes in a semi-automated mode. The software turned out to be game-changing and allowed business companies that had never encountered ERS technology before, to learn quickly how to prepare Annexes. Hundreds of businesses have used the ForestReport service over the years.

Scanex ForestReport, for instance, enables users to maintain a regularly updated database of logging sites by means of desktop GIS, as well as allows choosing the right image via timeline display function. These are the main advantages of the said service in comparison with how annexes are usually prepared.

Scanex ForestReport key advantages:

·         Authority representatives consulted on the service development; furthermore, the service imagery data was tested for accurately matching the forest site’s layout, as well as net of rides.

·         The service operates successfully over two years benefiting both large corporations and aggregator companies of the industry, as well as small-scale business and farm holdings from dozens of Russian regions.

·         The service functions based on the GeoMixer web platform and a prompt access to open, as well as commercial data acquired from satellites. Input data on forest sites (logging sites) location can be downloaded as a vector file.

·         The generated final file is based on the programmed annex draft, includes a space image of the territory with outlined logging sites and forest sections and features coordinate grid, scale bar, image date, type of ERS data, unique image identifier (ID), resolution, as well as the name of the legal entity submitting the report, Russian federal subject, forest district, sub-district, section and unit, the number and the acreage of logging site, format and type of logging or reforestation activity.

·         The interface is user-friendly. Any annex to the report is generated quickly and easily.

As part of the webinar Andrey Kuspits, Head of the Forest Service Department, will tell the audience about the user options and advantages of the service, will demonstrate how it operates and answer the questions on how to set up outlined forest sites, as well as generate a ready-to-be-used annex.

The webinar is released on SCANEX Youtube channel and is available 24/7.
