Domestic space technologies at the ISRSE 33 in Italy
Specialists of ScanEx RDC and NGO Transparent took part in the 33rd International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment (ISRSE 33) held on May 4-8 in Italy.

Application of Earth observation tools for global monitoring, study and management of environment for sustainable development and safety – those are the main topics of the symposium. Over 200 reports of leading specialists in RS data reception and processing and their application for varied thematic solutions were delivered at the sessions. ScanEx Project Management Department Head Vitaly Ippolitov told about the technology of monitoring Russian forests from space («Full-service technologies for wall-to-wall monitoring of Russian forests») within the frames of the project, being implemented by the Russian Federal Forestry Agency of the RF Ministry of Agriculture. NGO Transparent World specialist Ekaterina Tsybikova emphasized the possibilities of forest resources evaluation in the European part of Russia in her report (poster presentation «Retrospective analysis of remote sensing data for forest resources assessment in northern European Russia»).

In addition, domestic space technologies were presented at the symposium exhibition: functionality of «UniScan» ground receiving station and software for RS data processing manufactured and developed by ScanEx RDC.

— For those operating with remote sensing data our company offers a line of software box products, enabling to carry out a complete cycle of image processing: from reception and unpacking to interpretation and creation of thematic products, - said ScanEx Software Development & Marketing Department Head Dmitry Fedotkin.

Unique proposal of ScanEx for world higher education organizations enjoyed a special interest of the symposium participants. In 2009, members of the international educational community may purchase universal small-aperture UniScan ground station with licenses for reception of 100 scenes of EROS A, 600 minutes of IRS-1D and open access to SPOT 4 images during the first operational year, all included.

— According to the agreements with Operators of the respective RS programs we have already included data reception licenses into each UniScan hardware/software complex. This allows us to dramatically reduce the total costs of the complex and the prices of space images for education institutions, as well as to make data reception license prices affordable and to provide access to space images in real-time, which is the primary task of all monitoring solutions, -said Vitaly Ippolitov. – Monitoring solutions is the main topic at the symposium and we decided to use the possibility of partaking in it and to present our proposals for the world universities for the first time. Receiving station at a university will enable to train qualified specialists capable of using modern satellite-based technologies and to apply them for decision-making in different spheres.

ISRSE 33 symposium once again proved that our local space technologies may offer serious competition to the developments of other countries, whereas the synergy of creating a joint product (receiving station with a license and a full set of data processing software - ScanMagic and ScanEx Image Processor - included) looks pretty solid.
