Modification of Alice-SC stations to resume NOAA-18 downlink data reception
National oceanic and atmospheric administration (NOAA, USA) informed, that NOAA-18 has temporarily changed the mode of direct downlink since 18 August. NOAA-18 will be transmitting the data on 1702.5 MHz frequency left-hand polarization through November 01, 2009. The temporary change of specifications at L-band transmitter on NOAA-18 satellite is required to prevent the mutual interference with the transmitters on NOAA-19 satellite, which keep transmitting the HRPT images on 1698 MHz frequency with signal right-hand circular polarization.
On account of the transmitter specifications update on NOAA-18 satellite, small Alice-SC stations will be temporarily unavailable for satellite imagery reception from 18 August.
ScanEx R&D Center developed an upgraded version of Alisa-SK hardware-software complex, which supports a simultaneous reception of satellite signals with two types of polarizations. Existing Alice-SC can be modified to receive the data from back-up satellites NOAA-18 and NOAA-16.
