On the image: the Gulf of Ob, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region, Russia

The images of the Gulf of Ob (also known as Ob Bay) and the eastern part of the Yamal Peninsula were received on August 12, 2016 from SPOT 6 satellite.

The Gulf of Ob is a bay of the Kara Sea, located in Northern Russia at the mouth of the Ob River between the Gydan and Yamal peninsulas. It is about 800 km long and varies in width from about 30 km to 80 km. Maximum depth is 25 m.

The Yamal Peninsula is located in the Yamal-Nenets autonomous region of northwest Siberia and consists mostly of permafrost ground. In the language of its indigenous inhabitants «Yamal» means «End of the Land».
