The image of the Elbrussky and Zolsky districts of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic and the Karachaevsky and Malokarachaevsky districts of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic was received on August 20, 2016 from SPOT 7 satellite.

Mount Elbrus — a dormant volcano, the highest mountain in Russia — can be seen on the image. It is located on the border between the Kabardino-Balkar Republic and the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. Elbrus has two summits: the west one is 5,642 meters, the east is 5,621 meters. The distance between them is about 3000 meters.

Permanent icecap of Elbrus feeds 23 glaciers, which in turn give rise to the Baksan, Kuban, and Malka Rivers.
