The image received on May 2, 2018 from the WorldView-3 satellite shows the city of ​​Sovetskaya Gavan (which means «Soviet Bay»), located on the shore of the eponymous bay, which is part of the Tatar Strait of the Sea of ​​Japan.

The settlement here was founded in 1853 as the Constantine's post. In Soviet times, the basis of the city's economy was ship repair.

At present, the seaport of Sovetskaya Gavan specializes in reloading bulk, general, timber and oil cargo. Also in the port, seafood transshipment is developed for the needs of fish processing complexes that produce products on the domestic market of Russia.

The largest port in the Khabarovsk region Vanino is located 15 km north of Sovetskaya Gavan.
