Image of the Week: Bolshoy Irgiz River
The basin of the Bolshoy Irgiz River lies on a weakly elevated plain, dissected by dry hollows and beams. The surface of the basin is occupied by forest-steppe and steppe vegetation on chernozem, dark-chestnut and chestnut soils. Forests are preserved only in the floodplain of the river. Much of the steppe plowed. Grain and cattle farms and chemical industry enterprises are developed in the river basin.
The image also shows the region’s first networked solar power plant — the Pugachevskaya solar power plant. Its’ installed capacity is 15 MW, which is equivalent to the energy consumption of at least 3000 private households.
